Areas of application: One of the most popular casting alloys in the automotive industry, used for engine components, gearbox housings and chassis parts.

Properties: Excellent casting properties, good mechanical strength and high strength at elevated temperatures. The addition of copper improves the strength.

AlSi8Cu3 (EN AC-46200)

Areas of application: Similar to AlSi9Cu3, this alloy is used in automotive parts such as cylinder heads, pistons and gearbox housings.

Properties: Good compromise between castability and mechanical properties, with a strength that is further improved by the copper content.

AlSi12(Cu) (EN AC-47000)

Areas of application: Suitable for parts in automotive and mechanical engineering where good castability and moderate mechanical properties are required, such as transmission housings, engine components and structural parts.

Properties: Good compromise between castability and strength. The copper content improves the mechanical properties, but the corrosion resistance is somewhat lower.

AlSi12CuNiMg (EN AC-48000)

Areas of application: Ideal for high-temperature applications in automotive engineering, especially for components such as engine housings and cylinder heads.

Properties: Very good heat resistance and strength. The combination of copper, nickel and magnesium gives the alloy additional hardness and resistance.

AlSi17Cu4Mg (EN AC-48100)

Areas of application: Used for high-performance applications in automotive and mechanical engineering, especially at high temperatures, such as turbocharger components and other engine parts.

Properties: Very high strength, excellent heat resistance and abrasion resistance. The high silicon content improves the hardness of the alloy.
