About CASTFAST

What exactly is CASTFAST?

CASTFAST is a digital marketplace. It makes it easier for engineers and purchasers in small and large companies to access global casting manufacturing capacity and build resilient supply chains. CASTFAST is an on-demand manufacturing platform for ordering 3D sand printed parts in various materials. CASTFAST forwards the orders to connected foundries in order to be able to produce the parts precisely.
For the start, we are serving the material iron by connecting the iron foundry Römheld & Moelle. However, we will also be connecting other foundries and correspondingly other materials in the short term. In the meantime, we are offering interested foundries the opportunity to order 3D-printed sand molds via the platform so that they can then cast them themselves.

Why should I order from CASTFAST?

The main arguments are time, quality and costs. Thanks to our digital ordering process and short processing time, we are faster than the competition. We can send instant quotations for more and more components. This is achieved with consistently high quality, as our affiliated foundries undergo a strict selection process. Thanks to automation, we are also generally cheaper than the competition.

Which foundries are connected to the platform?

We have a direct integration with Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH from Mainz. We are also building relationships with other iron, aluminum, aluminum bronze, bronze, copper, brass and steel foundries in Germany.

Which countries/regions are served by CASTFAST?

The platform is focused on Europe and the German-speaking region in particular due to the foundries currently connected.

What types of sand molds can CASTFAST supply?

The offer via the calculator on the castfast.de website currently includes furan resin-bonded quartz sand with a medium grain size of 0.24 mm and a layer height of 0.5 mm. However, you can request the layer heights 0.26 mm and 0.38 mm in the furan resin binder from us at any time and, if required, we can also offer you high-strength cores made of phenolic resin and Cerabead with a layer height of 0.26 mm.

Where are the molds poured?

Casting is carried out exclusively in Germany by selected partners. All foundries connected to the CASTFAST platform are certified for quality management in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.

Where are the molds printed?

The molds are currently all produced in Germany by our partners in the sand printing sector.

Are there any restrictions on the material?

Not in principle. The 3D sand printing process is suitable for all materials that can be cast in sand molds. We can supply a wide range of alloys. The more foundries join the platform, the greater the choice of materials. You can find a list of our wide range of materials in the “Industries & Materials” section.

I have technical questions about the design of 3D sand printing parts. Who is my contact?

Of course you can contact our team at any time and ask questions of any kind.

Who are the people behind CASTFAST?

Our team members are CASTFAST’s greatest asset. We work on digital solutions and want to automate things as much as possible. However, nothing works without the right team in the background. We are not only an online company with digital and sales skills, but we also have deep manufacturing knowledge embedded in our team. We come from the foundry industry and know exactly what we are talking about. Don’t hesitate to contact us for more complex projects.

About 3D sand printing

What is 3D sand printing?

3D sand printing is a hybrid process that combines traditional sand casting with 3D printing. Sand molds are printed directly (without a model) in a special 3D printer and then cast in the same way as traditionally produced sand molds.

How does 3D sand printing work?

A print file for the sand mold is created using CAD data of the workpiece. Using a binder jetting process, the mold is then built up layer by layer in the 3D printer (by selectively bonding the grains of sand). If no CAD data is available, 3D data of the workpiece can be generated using drawings or a 3D scanner. We will be happy to help you.

What are the advantages of 3D sand printing?

Patternless mold production saves time and, for small quantities, money. Compared to other patternless casting processes, such as full mold casting, 3D sand printing has additional advantages – it is more precise, requires fewer additions, does not produce good and bad sides and opens up the design freedoms of 3D printing. Complex components that would not be possible with traditional mold making are suddenly feasible with 3D sand printing. There is no extra charge for complexity or small quantities.

When is 3D sand printing worthwhile?

3D sand printing is worthwhile when things have to be done quickly, when a single piece has to be cast without an existing model, when different variants of the same workpiece are required or when the workpiece is very complex. Typical applications are prototypes, start-up parts, exhibits for trade fairs (e.g. in mechanical engineering), urgently needed spare parts, excess demand or cast parts for which the model has been lost. Compared to metal 3D printing, 3D sand printing is worthwhile if the desired alloy is not available as a 3D printing material or if the mechanical properties of castings are desired (sand printing is also cheaper than metal 3D printing).

When is 3D sand printing not the best solution?

The team will be happy to answer this question. Even if the 3D sand printing process is not suitable, our partners are well positioned and CASTFAST can help you.

To the order process

Do I have to order online? What are the advantages?

The advantage of entering via CASTFAST is the fully automated, digital process, which enables foundries to process inquiries more efficiently. As a rule, this means that CASTFAST orders can be answered more quickly and can be scheduled more quickly by the foundry. The direct online price indication also gives you an instant price, making it easier to compare with other processes and suppliers. You are also welcome to contact us by e-mail. Simply use the e-mail vertrieb@castfast.de and we will take care of your request immediately.

Is there a minimum order value or a minimum quantity?

No, we offer castings and sand molds from a quantity of 1, at the price indicated in each case. In certain cases, batch sizes of at least 2 are advantageous and do not lead to any significant price increases. We will inform you about this.

How is the instant quote calculated?

The instant quote is based on a calculation logic trained by CASTFAST, which automatically reads the geometric parameters of 3D data sets and uses them to determine the complexity and thus calculate the cost. The exact formula for calculating the price is based on decades of experience in the field of casting, combined with our 3D sand printing expertise.

What happens after the immediate offer has been requested?

If the components meet the requirements for an immediate quotation, this will be sent to you and the CASTFAST team will be informed of your request. The CASTFAST team will usually get back to you within 24 hours.

How can I further automate the ordering process?

We check your order history before each quotation. If we have already processed your data record, we can speed up the preparation of the quotation and subsequent production.

How are the emissions calculated?

The carbon footprint stated in the offers is calculated in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol accounting standard and includes all emissions from Scopes 1 and 2 of the foundries.

How does CASTFAST protect the intellectual property of its customers?

We take your intellectual property very seriously. Every drawing, sketch or image you upload to our system is kept absolutely secure. We use the latest security algorithms. The traffic on our website is encrypted using the most advanced algorithms available. Once your order has been placed, only the supplier who actually manufactures your part has access to the drawing. All manufacturers in our network are contractually obliged to protect your intellectual property. If you require a specific non-disclosure agreement, please contact your account manager.

Do you only offer Printed Casting or also other casting processes?

The core of our activities are orders in the field of 3D sand printing – from support with 3D design and the provision of printed sand molds to the finished casting. However, as experts in the field of castings, we can also offer you other types of castings. Please contact your customer advisor – they will be happy to help you.
